The number on the scale only tells part of the story. While BMI has traditionally been used to measure progress, it cannot distinguish between body fat and skeletal muscle mass, or show where fat is stored in the body. That means that two people with the same BMI can have very different health risks and outcomes. Body composition helps fill in those gaps by looking at muscle mass, body fat, and visceral fat, giving you a clearer picture of what is really happening beneath the surface. When you understand your body composition, you can set more meaningful goals beyond just losing weight, like reducing harmful visceral fat and building protective muscle to support long term success.
