On Demand Recording: Food Addiction/Emotional Eating (September 2024)

This month’s highlight covered several important topics that many bariatric patients experience during their journey. Members shared honest conversations about navigating the pureed and soft food stages, including how challenging it can feel emotionally when food choices become limited. The discussion highlighted the importance of patience during healing, focusing on protein intake, and finding creative ways to make softer foods satisfying without slipping back into old habits. We also talked about rapid weight loss and the emotional adjustments that can come with seeing the scale change quickly including concerns about energy levels, body image, and learning to trust the process.

The group also explored practical day-to-day challenges like finding protein powders that taste good and are easier to tolerate, recognizing signs of dehydration, and understanding symptoms of low blood sugar after surgery. One of the most empowering parts of the conversation centered on self-advocacy: learning how to speak up for your needs with family, friends, workplaces, and even healthcare providers. Members encouraged one another to ask questions, seek support, and remember that their bariatric journey deserves care, attention, and respect. These conversations reminded everyone that success after surgery is not just about weight loss, but also about building confidence, awareness, and healthier coping strategies along the way.
